Situated about 15 minutes drive from Siliguri along Gangtok on the NH31 route, this is a unique eco-tourism and recreation spot. The name “Shorea” is itself derived from the botanical name belonging to the Sal trees “Shorea Rubusta” since the center is placed amidst dense Sal forests of the Baikunthapur division. The forest division has also constructed a beautiful tree top restaurant which runs with the help of forest villagers and thus the visitor will get appetizing food and a cool, serene environment in the lap of nature.

Gajoldoba near Siliguri

Gajoldoba is located 35 km to the east of Siliguri on the Teesta Barrage and is a haven for all bird watchers. The construction of a dam on the river Teesta here for irrigational purposes has made the place a favoured haunt for migratory water fouls. The densely forested Baikunthapur surrounds the water reservoirs thus inviting bird species from as far as Ladakh and Central Asia. Besides the beauty of the rare Brahmini duck, one can also spot poachards, bar headed goose, shovlers, poachards, pintails, mallards, and different species of storks, black ibis, cormorants and ducks.

A small village on NH 31A on the banks of the Teesta river, Kalijhora connects Bengal with Sikkim. Kalijhora has been a famous picnic spot and a place for local sightseeing for people visiting or staying in Siliguri. In 2000, a huge dam was constructed near this village on the Teesta river and dramatically changed the landscape. Besides the dam site, some of the other tourist attractions nearby include the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and the Kamala Falls which one can reach after trekking two hours from Kalijhora. Besides, one can also travel to Latpanchar, a scenic hilly village near Kalijhora in the Kurseong division.

Sevoke and Mongpong near Siliguri

Sevok is principally reputed for the historical Coronation Bridge which is a wonderful example of British architecture. Surrounded by a wide river basin and dense forests, Sevoke is also visited for the Sevokeshwar Kali Mandir situated on a hill top and providing an exquisite bird’s eye view of the Teesta River.

Dudhia is a famous hamlet and picnic spot on the Siliguri-Mirik highway on the Balason River basin. It is about 25 km from Siliguri and has a mesmerizing beauty featuring low hills, tea gardens and rivers. An ideal camping ground, Dudhia is famous for some of its nearby tourist attractions like Gokul where you can get refreshment and rest at the Gokul Wayside Inn, Panighata which is famous for its old world British bungalow called "Saheb Kuthi" and the Changa Khola rivulet.

Rohini near Siliguri

Situated 25 km from Siliguri on the way to Mirik, Rohini is another major tourist spot. The famous Rohini Lake swamped by green surroundings is its chief attraction. Besides it gives the visitors a wonderful view of lush green tea gardens and the spectacular Himalayan ranges in the distance. There is also a local accommodation at Rohini if the tourist wishes to spend a night here.
